Dear parents, with our kids’ health being our top priority, we’ll do anything to keep them and reinforce them. Good health is directly related to the functioning of our immune system. Strengthening the immune system is essential for kids’ bodies. When the immune system is weak, there’s a greater risk of developing a cold, flu and other diseases.

Here are a few tips that’ll help you maintain your little one’s natural defense:

Diet

The right diet, containing enough vitamins and minerals, is essential for the proper functioning of the immune system. However, a deficiency in certain vitamins or minerals might lead the body and immune system to weaken. This is a great reason to make healthy family meals and keep a healthy nutrition. Enrich your little one’s nutrition with fruits and vegetables, reduce processed foods and sugars and make sure to add essential vitamins and minerals to their diet, such as vitamins C and D and zinc.

  • Vitamin C – vitamin C had been known for decades as an important vitamin for our health and especially our immune system, and takes part in no less than 300 processes in the human body!
  • Zinc – an important mineral for the proper functioning of the immune system in all ages. Research has shown its anti-viral contribution to the body.
  • Vitamin D – an essential vitamin for the development of kids in young ages. Essential for absorbing calcium in the intestines and is in charge of bones and teeth integrity, also very important for a proper operation of the immune system. Since many parents realized, through the years, that sunlight exposure might be dangerous, especially at young ages, they’ve decided to apply sunscreen on their children, long sleeves, hats and make sure they’re shaded in order to protect them from sunlight damage. However, another issue may result from this, vitamin D deficiency or too little vitamin D in kids and infants. Therefore, there’s a recommendation to give vitamin D3 at a dosage of 400 UI per day to babies until the age of 12 months, and 600 UI over the age of 12 motnhs.

Proper hygiene

Teach your kids about the importance of washing their hands and being hygienic. Educate them to cover their mouths while they cough and set an example; wash hands together before every meal or coming in contact with food and whenever they leave the toilet. These are important actions for maintaining good health.

  • Elderberry – the herb’s fruits contain components that encourage the immune system. Elderberry is traditionally used to support viral diseases, especially when it comes with phlegm and cough.

Probiotics

Many studies examining the contribution of probiotics have shown that adding probiotics to kids and infants guarantees a proper bacterial balance in the digestive system. Probiotics is safe to use and supports the health of kids and infants. Adding probiotics enriches your little one’s body with good bacteria that reinforce the immune system and help it deal with it.
